self portrait silhouettes
In the 6th grade exploratory drawing class, students discussed what a self portrait, silhouette and profile were. They also learned about the famous portrait paintings created during the Renaissance and the famous profile portraits created by the artist Guiseppe Arcimboldo. The 6th graders then made a list of all the things that described them and their lifestyle. After sketching and painting all of the objects that represent them, they will trace and cut out their profile to make a unique self portrait.
Students will also learn about the meaning behind color and will choose the color that best fits their personality for their silhouette paper.
